Stop fighting sharks

In this episode we find out how Quint survived that whole ordeal in USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage, wonder why Blake Lively insists on fighting sharks in The Shallows, realized the best version of Justin Beiber is actually Andy Samberg in Popstar: Never Stop Stopping, and realize Michael Keaton is the most charismatically evil man in The Founder.

If you have a modicum of idealism and belief in innate goodness – you must stand beside Steve Rodgers. Should The Avengers be responsible for their actions? Absolutely. How hard would it have been to go back to Sokovia and do damage control? That whole situation probably would have remedied itself if these “heroes” had just apologized and helped rebuild the city. However, that does not mean they should be beholden to an international council that controls their actions. Even the best organizations can be infiltrated. Captain knows this better than anyone. So should Tony Stark. They both worked for Shield.
Also, we know Tony Stark. The man creates special rules for himself and those he loves when he sees fit. He may follow the Sokovian Accords — until it threatens his worldview or becomes inconvenient. While Captain’s reasons for not signing may be simplistic and naive at least he is sticking to his beliefs and he is extremely unlikely to change.

The Avengers should feel guilty for the destruction they have caused, however, let’s not pretend these are causalities of superheroes’ whims. Those citizens died during times of great threat. While it is not their fault they were near the front lines, their death is still a side effect of war. It’s unavoidable. We need to side with a man who has been to war, who realizes the costs, and won’t hide behind an international organization when it is time to man up.

Why I’m Team Iron Man

After the devastation caused in both The Avengers and The Avengers: Age of Ultron, the audience would be naive to think that innocent lives weren’t lost. People deserve to know who it is that has powers and what they’re capable of, and therefore, the Avengers should be held to the Sokovian Accord. The Avengers have been operating without any oversight, they have been free to travel to any country to do what they think is right. They are a lawless organization and therefore are no different than the people they are fighting, or the so-called bad guys.
With the creation of Ultron, it’s easy to see why the Avengers need to be somewhat regulated. Any person with the ability to create such a powerful machine of destruction needs to be held to a set of standards. Otherwise, who’s to say what other powerful being will be unleashed on the world? Therefore, if you believe that the Avengers need to operate with more caution and should have authority to operate within a given jurisdiction, you stand with Team Iron Man.

Absolutely Fabulous Southside Snowden

Did you watch The Jungle Book? We did and we both liked it! Gillian does not want a sequel. Jaclyn thinks the one human actor was very genuine. Both of us are afraid of Shere Khan.

In movie news, we discuss GLAAD taking on Star Wars, Will Ferrell backing out of a Regan/Alzheimers movie, and the Beetlejuice Restaurant coming to NYC.

In this episode, we go back to the 80s coke scene with The Infiltrator, wonder why we are hanging out Southside With You, learn how to be Absolutely Fabulous, and decide what we think of Edward Snowden (and JGL’s voice) in Snowden.
